Mr. Buren Surratt, age 88 of Chapel Hill Church Rd., Denton died Monday, August 27, 2012 at Randolph Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 31, 2012 at Chapel Hill UMC conducted by Rev. Chris Smith. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. Mr. Surratt was born March 9, 1924 in Randolph County to C. Lee Surratt and Louie Steed Surratt. He was a Veteran of the US Army, a self-employed truck driver and served on the Board of Directors of Randolph Telephone Company. He was a member of Chapel Hill UMC. Buren was preceded in death by brothers, James W. Surratt, Val Surratt, and Lloyd Surratt, sisters, Bertha Nooe and Grace Hill. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years Vernie Cobb Surratt of the home, daughter; Kathy Hall and husband Scott of Denton, brother; Max Surratt of Greensboro, sisters; Edith Russell and Betty Harrison both of Denton and Ann Loflin of Roanoke, VA., grandchildren; Jason and Megan Hall.
