Betty Jean Elam Harris, 90, of Spicewood Rd., Eagle Springs, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at her residence. Funeral Service will be 11AM Friday, August 8, 2025 at Candor United Methodist Church, with Rev. Thomas Simpson officiating. A Private Burial will follow in the Candor Cemetery.
Born in Montgomery County on May 15, 1935, she was the daughter of Howard and Virgie Stevenson Elam. She was a beloved member of Candor UMC, an exceptional farmer (and farmer’s wife), and a retired teacher assistant. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Eugene “Gene” Harris in 2019. They were happily married for 66 years.
Known for her warm Southern hospitality, incredible country cooking, and big, full heart, Betty Jean was loved by everyone who knew her. She never met a stranger and often treated friends of friends and relatives of relatives as her own. Impossibly, she never ran out of space in her heart, and it was a joy and a privilege to be loved by her.
She is survived by three sons, David Harris, Jr. (Laura) of Candor, John M. Harris (Evelyn) of Morehead City, Charles P. Harris (Donna) of Eagle Springs; Eight Grandchildren: Elizabeth (Josh), Katherine (Jeremy), Jordan (Ralph), Callie, John Michael, Katie, Will, and Abril (Josh); sisters-in-law, Carol Elam, Becky Williams, and Ann Batten (Gary); brother-in-law, Bill Harris (Ann); and multiple nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends following the services in the fellowship hall at Candor United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Candor United Methodist Church, PO Box 456, Candor NC 27229.
