Betty Ballard Guffey

Mrs. Betty Sue Ballard Guffey, age 98, formally of Oak Street, Troy, NC passed on December 9, 2025 at Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13 at Troy First Baptist Church with Rev. Nick Allen officiating with burial to follow at Southside Cemetery in Troy, NC.

Mrs. Guffey was born in Lincoln County on November 27, 1927, daughter of Harley and Lena Brackett Ballard. She was a member of Troy First Baptist Church since 1966.  She and her husband Eugene owned and operated Nationwide Insurance in Troy.  She was affectionally known as "Dr. Betty" to her friends and family. She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene Duffy in 2017.  

She is survived by her 3 sons, Steven Guffey of West Virginia, Randy Guffey of Efland, NC and Barry Guffey of Knightdale, NC; 4 daughters, Linda Freeman of Charlotte, Patricia Wiggins of Clover, SC, Paula Quate of Wilmington and Judith Harden of Troy; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Briggs-Candor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the Guffey family.
