Benny Lamar Chandler, born on September 1, 1931, in Stanly County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton. He was 94 years old. Benny lived a life characterized by hard work, dedication to family, and a deep-seated commitment to his community.
A skilled mechanic, Benny was the original owner of the Texaco service station in Denton and had contributed his talents as a mechanic at Hill Motor Company, the local Ford dealership. He culminated his career as the owner of South Main Garage in Denton, where he earned the respect and affection of countless customers and colleagues throughout his years of service.
In addition to his passion for his work, Benny proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, exemplifying his dedication to the country he loved. Throughout his life, he maintained a strong faith, being of the Baptist faith, which guided him in both his personal and professional endeavors.
Benny had a rich array of interests that brought immense joy to his life. He was an avid woodworker who took great satisfaction in crafting beautiful pieces. His love for classic cars was matched only by his enthusiasm for displaying his extensive Diecast car collection. Even in his quieter moments, Benny found pleasure in mowing, enjoying the simplicity of tending to his surroundings.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Evadean "Dean" Morris Chandler, who stood by his side through the years. Benny took great pride in his family, including his daughters, Deanna Grubb and her husband Steve, and Sherry Waisner and her husband Chris. Benny cherished his grandchildren, Brantly Grubb and his wife Sarah, Lindsey Grubb, and Chandler Waisner, each of whom brought him joy and pride.
Benny was preceded in death by his father, Bennett Chandler; his mother, Tero Elliott Chandler; a brother, Thurman Pete Chandler; and sisters Betsy Lowe, Lula Britt, and Claudine Carter. He also mourned the loss of his infant sister, Lizzy Jane Chandler.
A graveside service to honor Benny Lamar Chandler's life will be held on October 6, 2025, at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Denton, beginning at 3:00 PM. As we remember Benny, we celebrate a man whose impact on family, friends, and community will be cherished forever.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials made to Mountain Vista Health Park.
