Barbara Carter Varner

Barbara Ann Carter Varner, 82, of East Old Hwy 64, Lexington, NC passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Hinkle Hospice House.

At a later date a private family graveside service will be held at Clarksbury Church Cemetery officiated by her brother Rev. Billy Carter.

Barbara was born on April 29, 1942, in Litchfield, KY to the Arthur Carter and Hazel Dennison Carter. She was of the Christian faith and had owned and operated restaurants. Barbara also enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Varner.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tim Bess of Lexington, Tammy Bess Pressley of Lexington, Terry Bess of Winston Salem, and Todd Bess of Lexington; brother, Billy Carter of Litchfield, KY; and sister, Pat Portman of Louisville, KY. 9 grandchildren, Nathan Bess, Emily Byerly, Jordan Pressley, Katelyn Tucker, Noah Bess, Lindley Farris, Jake Bess, Luke Bess, and Micah Bess; and 6 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 are requested by the family.
