Barbara Morphis

October 31, 1935 — June 23, 2018

Mrs. Barbara Joanne Squires Morphis, 82, of Piedmont Rd., New London passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at her residence.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 27 at Chandlers Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Phillippi and Rev. Derald Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Morphis was born October 31, 1935 in Guilford County to Boyd Baxter Squires, Sr. and Mabel Lynch Squires. Mrs. Morphis was a homemaker, member of Chandlers Grove UMC, and active in the United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother, Boyd Baxter “Skip” Squires, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde Thomas Morphis, Jr. of the home; daughters, Dee Morphis Jones of Kernersville, Barbie Shayne Morphis Combs of Kernersville, and Jackie Morphis Taylor (Ronnie) of Greensboro; sister, Dee Stanly (Lexie) of Stokesdale; 8 grandchildren, Britt Jones (Sam), Brian Jones (Autumn), Callie Jones (Justin), Calvin Jones (Jenny), Olivia Hinnant (Sam), Ethan Combs (Pricilla), Tara Hill (Jonathan), Jesse Peeden; 10 great-grandchildren; and her beloved pet dog “Biscuit”.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and following the service Wednesday in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Morphis family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Davidson County for the wonderful care and support.
