Avis Gallimore Surratt

Mrs. Avis Gallimore Surratt, age 91, of Surratt Drive, Denton died Tuesday, December 13 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. Funeral service for Mrs. Surratt will be 2:00 pm Friday, December 16 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Kelly Creekmur and Rev. Aaron Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. Mrs. Surratt was born February 22, 1920 in Davidson County to James Alexander and Hattie Lee Myers Gallimore. She was a homemaker and an active member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She loved her flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband Millard E. Surratt on April 5, 2006. Mrs. Surratt is survived by three sons, Jimmy Surratt of Denton, Dempsey Surratt of Mt. Gilead and Gilmer Surratt of Denton, one brother Paul Gallimore of Lexington, one sister, Mamie Lee Shuler of Lexington, eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
