Atlas C. Greene, Jr., 94, of Ballpark Rd., Biscoe, died Monday, January 7, 2019 at Autumn Care of Biscoe. Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Free and Rev. Dana Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Biscoe Cemetery.
Born in Candor (Montgomery County) on April 9, 1924, he was the son of Atlas Columbus, Sr. and Minnie Richardson Greene. He worked in textiles with Springs Industries of Biscoe, was an avid gardener and a Jack-of-all-trades. He really loved sharing his garden and produce with his family and friends. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in WWII in the 99 th infantry division in the European Theatre. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star for his valor. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew English; sisters, Connie Kennedy, Glennie Dunn, Sadie Bowles; brothers, Manley Greene, Arlie Greene and Ellis Greene.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Trula Mabe Greene of the home; 3 daughters, Linda G. Thompson (Charles) of Troy, Patricia G. Lewis (Cecil) of West End, and Liz English (Johnny) of Pinehurst; son, Barney M. Greene (Margaret) of Candor; sister, Lela G. Thompson (Bill) of Biscoe; brother, Clayton Greene (Cozette) of Candor; 7 grandchildren, John Thompson (Olafia), Chad Thompson, Janet Greene, Alan Greene, Jason Lewis (Jill), Jennifer Lewis, Kellie Bennett (Adam); 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM prior to the service Wednesday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home and other times at the residence on Ballpark Rd., Biscoe.
He attended Tabernacle Baptist Church in Candor for approximately 20 years. He really loved his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
