Astros "Rose" Gudnadottir Cato

Astros "Rose" Gudnadottir Cato, born on October 26, 1943, in Iceland, passed away on October 15, 2025, in Davidson County, North Carolina, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident while returning home from a Bible study at her beloved church. She was 81 years old.

Rose dedicated her life to her family, taking great pride in her role as a homemaker and the caretaker of her husband, Tommie Cato, Jr., with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised a loving family that included their son, Tommie Cato III "Trey," and his wife Wendy, and their daughters, Olafia C. Thompson and her husband John, and Lilly C. Smith and her husband Doyce. Rose was a proud grandmother to Heather Benson, Ryan Thompson, Nick Cato, Austin Thompson, Faith Smith, and Gracie Cato, as well as a cherished great-grandmother to Bella, Landon, Parker, Addie, Emma, and Erik.

A devoted member of Chandler's Grove Methodist Church for over 30 years, Rose was an active participant in church activities, embodying the values of her faith in every aspect of her life. Her deep commitment to her community and family will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In addition to her husband and children, Rose is survived by her brother, Solver Gudnason, and her sister, Anna Douglas. She was preceded in death by her father, Gudni Jon Baeringsson, her mother, Olafia Hermunda Eyleifgdottir, and seven siblings.

The legacy of love and family that Rose leaves behind is a testament to her life's work and the impact she had on those around her. Visitation will be held at Briggs Funeral Home - Denton Chapel, located at 103 E Salisbury St, Denton, NC 27239, on October 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Rose's warmth, kindness, and boundless love will continue to inspire her family and friends, and her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
