Arlene Sturdivant

Mrs. Arlene Floyd Sturdivant, age 91 of West NC Hwy # 47, Denton, NC died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Lexington Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 27 at Central United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Clodfelter. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Sturdivant was born October 16, 1918 in Davidson County to Lauton Lewis Floyd and Elsie Hedrick Floyd. She was retired co-owner and operator of Bill’s Hosiery Mill and was a member of Central United Methodist Church and also a member of the United Methodist Women of the Church. She was a member of the Women’s Guild of New Jerusalem United Church of Christ. Her hobbies included knitting, quilting, embroidering and gardening. She was married to William W. (Bill) Sturdivant, Sr. who died September 29, 1991. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Edith Regan and her husband Hoyle, Kate Bivens and her husband John; sister-in-law Geraldine Floyd and brother-in-law Harvey Hammond. Mrs. Sturdivant is survived by a son, William W. (Woody) Sturdivant, Jr. and wife Linda of Denton; daughters, Libby S. Carrick and husband Max of Lexington; and Judy S. Richardson and husband John of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother Bryce Floyd of Denton; and a sister Joan Hammond of Asheboro; 4 grandchildren, Stacy; Kelly, John and David and 4 great grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews. The family will see friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence on W. NC Hwy # 47, Denton.
