Mrs. Arlene Morris Barnes, age 73 of NC Highway 109 S. Denton, NC died Wednesday, July 19 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 22 at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Vern Peterson :Mrs. Barnes was born September 28, 1932 in Davidson County to Hoke Morris and Mary Lee Carroll Morris. She was a 1950 graduate of Denton High School and a graduate of Ashmore Business College in Thomasville. She retired as Senior Bank Teller with Central Carolina Bank, and its predecessor Carolina Bank & Trust, where she was employed for 49 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. She was a member of The Denton Ladies Civitan Club and was named 1997 “Civitan of The Year” She volunteered with Davidson County Special Olympics, the Davidson County Chapter of American Red Cross and the South Davidson Resource Center. She served on the Board of Directors of Mountain Vista Health Park where she also served as a volunteer. On December 26, 1952 she married William (Bill) Barnes who died April 2, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a brother Ronald Morris. She is survived by daughters Latefa Powell and husband Ronald of Asheboro; Sarah Bass and husband Guy of Lexington, sisters Sue Ella Elliott and Lynda Morris both of Denton and grandchildren Ryan and Rachel Bass; Amanda and Robert Powell. The family will see friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Friday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Denton Ladies Civitan Scholarship Fund, PO Box 774, Denton, NC 27239 or to Davidson County Chapter of American Red Cross, 8 Franklin St., Lexington, NC 27292.
