Anton Nopanen, 95, of Rocky Cove Lane died Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Mountain Vista Health Park. Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Tuesday, May 26 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Benny Clodfelter. Interment will be held later in Fitchburg, MA. Mr. Nopanen was born December 14, 1913 in Finland to Alexander and Ida Nopanen. He served in the Finnish Army. He was a very active member of Elm Street Congregational Church in Fitchburg, MA. He was also a member of the Finnish Golden Age Club. Preceded in death by his wife Anna Kaarin Nopanen, and later his 2nd wife Ethel Nopanen and by 8 siblings. He is survived by sons; Esko Nopanen and wife Adalyn of Denton and by Juha Nopanen and wife Jane of Niceville, FL., a sister; Kati, grandchildren; Gail Hageman, David Nopanen, Chrissie Cabrera, and Aron Nopanen, great grandchildren; Eric Nopanen, Kevin Hageman, Lena Hageman, Carey Cabrera, Jessa Cabrera, Joel Cabrera, Jr., Jakob Cabrera, and Cylie Cabrera. The family will see friends on Tuesday from 3:30-5:00 prior to the service at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton, and other times at the home of Esko Nopanen on Rocky Cove Lane, Denton. In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be sent to the Salvation Army, 314 West 9th Avenue, Lexington, NC 27292 or to Hospice of Randolph County, PO Box 9 Asheboro, NC 27204-0009 The family would like to express a special thanks to Anton's Mountain Vista "family" for all the tender loving care shown to him.
