Alvin Alexander Smith

Alvin Alexander Smith, 95, of Pecan Ridge Lane, Candor, died Saturday, February 5, 2022 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.  Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Middlecross Baptist Church, with Rev. David Reynolds officiating.  Burial will follow in Macedonia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  The family requests social distancing to be observed and that masks be worn by all attendees.

Born in Montgomery County on August 24, 1926, he was the son of Arthur Alexander and Cora Glascoe Smith.  He was owner/operator of Alvin Smith Trucking and was a Navy Veteran.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Bowman Smith and a daughter, JoAnn Smith.

He is survived by a son, Alvin Smith, Jr. of Candor; 4 daughters, Dorothy “Dotty” Mullinix of Mt. Gilead, Virginia “Ginny” Sessoms of Jackson Springs, Vickie Callicutt of Seagrove, and Donna Sue Blake of Rockingham; a sister, Alice Bowman of Candor; 9 Grandchildren; 18 Great-grandchildren; 3 Great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith will lie in state from 4 to 6 PM on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home. The family will not be present.
