Mr. Alton Cleveland Soles age 77, of Floyd Church Rd., Lexington died Friday, August 22, 2014 at WFU Lexington Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 27 at Floyd Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Josh Sheffield and Rev. Shane Smith. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Soles was born June 13, 1937 in Columbus County. He was a member of Floyd Baptist Church and worked at Thomasville Furniture Industries before retiring after 35 years of service as a finishing specialist. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Isabelle Soles Capps; step father, David V. Capps; son, Alton Soles, Jr., and by a brother, Dotha Lee “Junior” Soles. Surviving is his wife, Estelle Cartrette Soles of the home; daughters, Rita Soles Shipton of Lexington and Deborah Soles Winchester of Lexington; grandchildren, Wendy Shipton Hughes (Mark), Mitzi Shipton Warner (Paul), and Adam David Shipton (Shannon); great-grandchildren Kalob Keith Shipton, Katelyn Belle Shipton, Jordan Millie Hughes, and Cole, Abby, Emma, and Grace Justice; sisters, Nina Todd of Lumberton, Hilda Blackburn of Thomasville, Pat Arita (Paul) of Leland, and Jimmie Lou Cabe of Thomasville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on Floyd Ch. Rd.
