( On June 6, 2013 , Almada Harris, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, age 88 of Mountain Vista Health Park Denton, NC, formerly of the New Hope community in Randolph County, completed life’s journey to have that glad reunion with her loved ones that made it home before her. The youngest and last survivor of nine children, she was born September 9, 1924 to James and Alma Hopkins. Older than Almada were five brothers, Elmer, Val, Burrell, Frank and Riley Hopkins. Her three older sister were Ruby, Eva and Doris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Harris (1982). She retired from public work four years prior to his death in order to care for him during his illness. Surviving are her three sons: Clarence and wife Betty, Steve and wife Margaret, and Al (Buddy) Harris. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Eddie, Kelly, Jason and Joanna, as well as her great grandchildren: Samantha, Shayna, Hali, Camden, Hannah, Landon and Reedling. The family will receive friends at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, NC. on Saturday evening June 8 between 6 and 8 pm and at other times at the residence of Clarence Harris on New Hope Road, Denton, NC. The service will be held Sunday, June 9, at 2pm at Liberty Fellowship Church on New Hope Road where she was a lifetime member, conducted by Rev. Jack Luther. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
