Alma Ledford Moore

Mrs. Alma Elizabeth Ledford Moore, age 92, of Summerville Church Rd., Denton died Monday, November 22 at Thomasville Medical Center. Funeral service for Mrs. Moore will be 2:00 pm Saturday, November 27 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jack Hurley and Rev. Billy Dunigan officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday night at the funeral home and other times at the home of Beulah and Gary Strickland on Summerville Church Rd. One of thirteen children, Mrs. Moore was born October 10, 1918 in Haywood County, the Fines Creek Community, to Lloyd and Minnie McElrath Ledford. She was a longtime member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and was retired from Burlington Industries. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years John Dee Moore who died March 31, 1989 and by a son, R. L. (Dick) Moore. Her 84 descendants include daughters Beulah Strickland and Elizabeth Franklin, both of Denton, Marie Dunigan of Lincolnton, sons, Carl “Whitey” Moore of Sophia, Lewis Moore of Pryor, Oklahoma, Johnny Moore, Ralph Moore and Larry Moore, all of Lexington, 27 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 9 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Earl Ledford of Georgia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 7987 South NC Hwy. 109, Thomasville, NC 27360
