Alma Carrick Buie

Ms. Alma Carrick Buie, 96, of Denton Rd., Denton passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at her residence.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, Aug. 30 at Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. Flynn Richardson and Rev. Mike Motley officiating. Interment will follow at Summerville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Buie was born April 11, 1923 in Davidson County to Lois Carlie “L.C.” Carrick and Creolar Owens Carrick. Alma was a member of Summerville Baptist Church, The Willing Workers Sunday School Class, and had served as Church Clerk and Treasurer. She was involved in the Music Department for 65 years as Choir Leader, Pianist, and Choir Member. She also taught Sunday School. She retired from Thornton Hosiery Mill.

In addition to her parents Alma was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Vance Buie; brother, Lawrence Carrick; sisters, Myrtle Davis, Gladys Carrick, Mattie Newsom, and Fallie Carrick; great-granddaughter, Alora Buie.

She is survived by son, Tony Buie and wife Peggy of Denton, sister, Catherine Parker and husband Clay of Lexington; 3 grandchildren, Gina Bourne and husband Danny of Denton, Todd Buie of Denton, and Chad Buie and Wife Janice of Lexington; 4 great-grandchildren, Ethan Bourne, Austin Bourne, Miles Buie, and Colton Buie; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Aerith and Allison.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence.
