Allen Jones Harvell

Mr. Allen Jones Harvell, 86, a resident of Thayer Rd., Troy, NC passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020 at his residence.

A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Ophir United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Bill Knapp. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Allen was born May 9, 1933 in Montgomery County to Stanley James Harvell and Alice Luther Harvell. He graduated from Troy High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army as a Cannoneer during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. Allen later retired from General Electric and Black and Decker after 43 years of employment. In addition to his parents Allen was preceded in death by his brother, Ottis Eugene Harvell.

He was a member of Ophir United Methodist Church where he served as Superintendent, previous chairman of the Administration Board, and many other capacities throughout the years. He loved his church and lived a good Christian life.

Mr. Allen enjoyed roller skating, water skiing, and horseback riding. But his main hobbies were fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Opal Jeraldean “Jerry” Lanier Harvell of the home; niece, Joyce Harvell Davis & husband Joe Cunningham of Landrum, SC; nephew, Michael Harvell and wife Sue Ellen of Greenville, SC and he loved all his furry friends - Jake, Shorty and Target.

The family will greet friends at the cemetery following the service.
