David Marshall Lanier, Sr.

June 23, 1938 — August 15, 2012

Mr. David M. Lanier, Sr., age 74 of Denton died Wednesday, August 15 at High Point Regional Hospital Cancer Center after battling cancer since the end of May. Funeral service for Mr. Lanier will be 2:00 pm Saturday, August 18 at Canaan United Methodist Church with Rev. Tammy Talbert and Rev. Dan Money officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 pm Friday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the family farm on Beck Road, Denton. Mr. Lanier was born June 23, 1938 in Davidson County to James Frank and Elma Russell Lanier. He attended Denton High School and worked as a supervisor with Burlington Industries for 37 years. Along with his son and wife he ran Trucks Unlimited for 9 years. He was an active member of Canaan United Methodist Church for 55 years. He loved working on the farm with his son and was a member of the N. C. Holstein Association. When his children were young he was actively involved with them in 4-H cattle shows. He loved being with his grandchildren. Mr. Lanier is survived by his wife Frances Kindley Lanier of the home who he married on October 26, 1958. He is also survived by one son, David M. Lanier, II and wife Andrea of Denton, two daughters, Deborah Rudd and husband Jeff of Yanceyville and Angela McHenry and husband David of Waynesville, grandchildren, Thomas Rudd and wife Nissa, Josh Rudd, Rachel Rudd, Lydia Rudd, Olivia Lanier, Mary Lanier, Jennifer McHenry and Luke McHenry, one great-grandchild, Audrey Nicole Rudd and five sisters, Ann See, Elwina Shaw and husband Rex, Margurite Nance, Betty Jo Yates and husband Paul, and Lola Mae Scarboro, all of Denton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be sent to Music Ministry of Canaan United Methodist Church, c/o Emily Nance, P. O.
