Mrs. Floretta Andrews Lanier, age 85 of Hwy. 109 South, Denton died early Friday morning, February 25 at Randolph Hospital. Funeral service for Mrs. Lanier will be 2:00 pm Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Derald Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Tom’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of daughter, Saundra Buie of Chapel Hill Church Rd. Mrs. Lanier was born June 16, 1925 in Columbus County to William Ashley and Missouri Dowless Andrews. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a childcare provider for many years. Mrs. Lanier was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Nolan Lanier on January 22, 1996. She is survived by one son, Jesse Nolan “Jay” Lanier, Jr. and wife Denise of Denton, three daughters, Saundra Buie and husband Clarence of Denton, Gayla Hedrick and husband Jimmy of Lexington and Tamara Turner and husband David of Denton, one brother, Willie Andrews of Whiteville, one sister Flara McGahan of High Point, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
