The Reverend Charles Wilson Dickens broke free of his earthy chains to enter into the presence of his Heavenly Father on January 24, 2013.

Reverend Dickens was born in Davidson County on January 29, 1934, to The Reverend Jessie Wilson Dickens and Ora Ellen Staton Dickens. Reverend Dickens was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1953 to 1956. He was a member of the American Legion Post 8. He loved his country, but above all, he loved his Lord and served Him faithfully for 40 years. Reverend Dickens received his education at Fruitland Bible Institute in Hendersonville, NC. He served churches in Forest City, NC and Lexington, NC until he retired in September 2012. Reverend Dickens was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald Benjamin Dickens and Paul Melton Dickens; two sisters, Treva Lee Dickens Stroud and Myrtle Helen Dickens Carrick. Reverend Dickens is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Judith Ann Byrd Dickens. His two daughters, Vanessa Gayle Dickens McCrary and husband Reverend Robert Paul McCrary of Mount Airy, NC, Deborah Kay Dickens Berger of Hendersonville, NC; and one son, Gregory Charles Dickens and wife Traci Lee Yates Dickens of Lexington. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Robert Benjamin McCrary and wife, Diane Marie Barr McCrary, Joshua Paul McCrary and wife, Mary Katherine “Katie” Benge McCrary, of Mount Airy, Andrea Kay McCrary Wallace and husband, Daniel Paul Wallace, of Cary NC, Jared Allen Berger and wife, Rebecca Chelsea Casteel Berger, and Nolan Ryan Berger and fiancé, Emily Ashton Sabato, of Hendersonville, NC, Oran Charles Dickens, Jacob Lee Dickens, and Daniel Menston Dickens of Lexington, NC. Three great-grandchildren, Nataly Anne McCrary and Autumn Nicole McCrary of Mount Airy, NC, Hadlynn Rose Berger of Hendersonville, NC and the fourth great grandchild, Adalyn Elizabeth McCrary, to be born in June. Reverend Dickens greatly loved his family and they loved him. Also surviving is one sister, Betty Jean Dickens Myers of Aberdeen, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Robert McCrary and Reverend Gary Myers officiating. Entombment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3 to 4 p.m. at the
