Coach Michael (Mike) Eugene Crowell, age 52 of Garner St., Denton died Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Thomasville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 7:30 PM Thursday, Oct. 4 at South Davidson High School in the Gymnasium conducted by Rev. Sandy Young and Rev. Brian Workman. Burial will be private on Friday at Goodwill Christian Church Cemetery.
Coach Crowell was born June 2, 1960 in Fayette County, Alabama to Albert Eugene Crowell and Betty Jean Carrell Crowell. He was a graduate of Denton High School and Pfeiffer University. He was a coach and teacher at South Davidson High School. He was preceded in death by his father and brother in law, Jimmy Martin.
Coach Crowell began coaching at Salisbury High School and at Woodlief and Bostian schools in Rowan County. He volunteered 9 years and since 1990 had been a Teacher and Coach at South Davidson were he started the wrestling program and in 2003 won the 1A State Championship in wrestling. He was named conference Coach of the Year several times in Wrestling. In addition to Football and Wrestling Coach Crowell also coached Track and Field and Little League.
Survivors include, wife; Kathie Martin Crowell of the home, son; Brendan Crowell of the home, daughter; Emilie Crowell of the home, mother; Betty Crowell Kennon and step father; Robert Kennon of Lexington, brother; C. David Crowell of Lexington, sister; Teresa Sears and husband Keith of Plaquemine, La., grandmother; Melzie Crowell of Sun City Center, Fl,, father and mother-in-law; Jim and Janell Martin of Denton, brother-in-laws; Jeff Martin and wife Faye and Scott Martin and wife Celena, sister-in-laws; Teresa Parker and husband Tim, Sheila Garner and husband Danny, Karen Pierce and husband Gil, and Pam Fee, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at South Davidson High School prior to the service.
